On Thursday, the Journal of the American Heart Association was published about stroke related women use antidepressants.

The new study shows that women with a history of depression and SSRI antidepressants such as Prozac, Zoloft or Celexa a 39% higher risk to get a stroke.

Reports by the author of the study of women use antidepressants for over six years, Kathryn Rexrode internist at Harvard Medical School. Depression is a disease stroke and cardiovascular usually been linked, but these are modest increases in risk, and should not lead to women use of antidepressants.

A principal researcher from Harvard School of Public Health, said the use of antidepressants in women usually indicates that depression is more difficult than those without.

Depression in the general risk factors had been implicated such as blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, smoking and physical inactivity. Depression in women twice as likely to occur in women than men, the reason is unknown.

According to BBC report the study was followed 80,000 women who compared with women who were not depressed. The result was that depressed women more likely to be single, smokers, less physically active, a little younger and have a body mass index, as well as problems such as hypertension, heart disease and diabetes.

During the study of 1033 women had a stroke. Stroke is the third largest cause of death in US after heart disease and cancer in the U.S..
